From Dropout to Classroom

Author:

Sandhya Bhabhar, from Umarpura village, Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, had to leave school when her family migrated in search of work due to financial difficulties. She also cared for her three younger siblings, further disrupting her education. Recognising this, Hand in Hand India’s programme supporting early childhood development and out-of-school children helped her return to learning through the Non-Residential Special Training Centre. With consistent encouragement, she developed foundational literacy and numeracy skills, learning the alphabet, reading words and counting up to 100. The project team also helped resolve documentation barriers, enabling her to re-enrol in Class 2. She now attends school regularly, reads and writes, and actively participates in classroom activities, rebuilding her foundation for continued education.
